High Plains Heritage Foundation
The High Plains Heritage Foundation is a community foundation serving as a repository and distributor of charitable funds serving the communities of the high plains of Southwest Kansas and the Panhandle region. It is organized for the purposes of:
· Improving the quality of life for the people and communities in its region.
· Improving cultural and education development for the people in its region.
· Assisting individuals and groups exercise programs intended to improve the wellbeing of the regional community.
The High Plains Heritage Foundation was incorporated in Kansas in October 2003. It received its Internal Revenue Service recognition of exemption as a 501(c) 3 organization in June 2004. The Foundation board of directors oversees the building and managing of the foundations assets, assesses the community’s needs, and distributes the fund according to the purposes intended.

The major categories for donor contributions are:
· Undesignated Funds – Governing Board selects recipient or cause to receive funds.
· Designated Funds – Donor designates use or charitable organizations to receive funds.
· Donor Advised Funds – Allows donor to recommend specific charitable uses or organizations to receive funds.
· Field of Interest Funds – Allows donor choices for funds distribution within a charitable area or activity (i.e. youth activities, senior citizens, education).
· Founders Legacy Fund – Underwrites the operational & administrative expenses of the Foundation.
· Heritage Community Fund – Provides funds for area grants and encourages others to invest in the region’s needs.

Some highlights for the 2024 year included:
- Receiving a grant from the Patterson Family Foundation for $61,098 for continued support of the executive director position.
- $9,950 in HPHF grants given to 20 non-profit organizations
- In the HPHF Giving Tuesday Campaign, $4,300 was raised and matched to provide $8,600 to 17 organizations.
Established two new funds, the United Play Fund and the Gus Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund.
